Ellesse Andrews- 2017 Recipient

Ellesse Andrews cycling update October 2017

In early August I travelled as a member of the New Zealand Junior Team, to the Junior World Champs in Montichiari, Italy.

I completed in a total of three events at this competition, coming away with a silver medal in the Team Pursuit, and a gold medal and new Junior World Record in the Individual Pursuit. I also made it through to the final round of the Women’s Keirin.

Since returning home, I have been largely focusing on my school work and preparation for end of year exams. Coming up for me in the next few months are the Oceania track cycling champs, where I will be riding as an elite for the first time, and the Elite Track National Champs in late February.

Some of my other achievements include:

2017 New Zealand National Track Championships

-          Gold medal U19 Individual pursuit

-          Gold medal in the U19 women 500m TT

2017 Club Road Nationals

-          Gold medal U19 women Road Race

2016 Junior World championships in Aigle, Switzerland:

-          Gold and Junior World champion in the U19 women team sprint

-          Bronze medal U19 women Individual pursuit

I am looking forward to beginning study at Waikato University in 2018, and am a proud recipient of the Sir Edmund Hillary scholarship.
