Athlete Update- Seth Hope, April 2019

Rower Seth hope updates us on his training and performance:

I have been training with the Waikato RPC (Rowing Performance Centre) for a full racing season now having completed the National Championships which were held in Twizel this year at the end of February.

My season was quite a successful one with it being just my first year with the RPC and being required to race only in Premier events against far older and more experienced rowers than myself. I had a few successful races throughout the smaller Regattas making A finals or topping the B finals however it wasn’t until Nationals that the result I was after finally came.

At Nationals I raced the U20 double and U22 quad. In the U22 quad we managed to get 6th and in the U20 double sculls we managed to come 1st. This was a great result for us and my doubles partner Will Thompson and I are both junior rowers so are eligible for the NZ junior team which will compete in Tokyo later this year.

By winning the U20 double against older competitor’s (with us only being 17) it gives us both an extremely good chance of receiving and Juniors trial in the hopes of making the team in April.

From now till then I will continue training with my RPC and work hard to make the team in the hopes of competing and medaling at the Junior world championships in Tokyo.

This has been my long term goal for the whole season and one which I am now confident is achievable.
